The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, as we know by now, is the “rugged” version of the standard Galaxy S4, with the key difference between the two phones being a waterproof and dustproof design on the Active. But as reported earlier in the week, there may be a few more differences between both handsets, such as an 8-megapixel rear camera on the Galaxy S4 Active (rather than a 13-megapixel sensor) and probably a smaller display, as evidenced by the higher pixels-per-inch density on the Galaxy S4 Active. In summation, the Galaxy S4 Active should be similar to the Galaxy S4. But at the end of the day, both phones may be more different than you may think.
Looking at the design of the Galaxy S4 Active, there appear to be some improvements in terms of the device’s appearance. For one, the leaked photos posted this week on GSMArena show a bright red handset – the Galaxy S4 is only offered in black and white, with a blue flavor possibly on the way soon. More importantly, the Galaxy S4 Active might finally introduce metal to the Galaxy S line, as the photos show a metallic back plate, as well as a black metallic strip separating the two bolts on top of and at the bottom of the device’s rear. That latter detail may be a more subtle change than the rumored metal backing, but it’s nice to know that Samsung appears to be making an effort to make a great product even better, at least in terms of design.
The Galaxy S4 Active is rumored to be released in July, while pricing details have yet to get leaked out or confirmed.
